The Umndeni Game Lodge

Built in 2011 and set deep within a private 2,000-acre reserve, Umndeni was made for families and friends to gather, slow down and feel at home in the bush. The interiors, designed by Erena Goodwin, are elegant but never precious — deep sofas, warm fireplaces, generous living spaces and quiet corners where everyone can settle in.

Much of the lodge was built by hand from wood and stone gathered on the reserve, giving it a natural, grounded feel, as though it belongs to the landscape around it. There are spacious lounge and dining areas, a wide thatched veranda overlooking the pool, and a boma where evenings unfold around the fire, under a sky full of stars.
